Lynette Wessels

Lynette Wessels took over as Head Coach of the Otters in 2001. In 1978 Lynette helped Santa van Jaarsveld with her junior swimmers and later also helped coaching with Syd Gibbons and Douggie Eagar. In 2002 Lynette was chosen to accompany the junior SA Team to Brazil. In 2003 Lynette accompanied the SA Team to Mare Nostrum in Barcelona and France. In the same year Lynette was chosen by Swimming South Africa to accompany the SA Team to the All Africa Games in Nigeria.

In her short coaching career, Lynette has already produced 8 SA swimmers: namely Suzaan van Biljon, Jo-Ann Bergman, Renaldo Lategan, Trudi Maree, Reynard Wessels, Eben Vorster, Nicole Dooling and Tailyn Seffert . Lynette, as coach from 2001 until present has produced swimmers who have qualified to represent Free State at Junior and Senior National Championships. She also produced swimmers who qualified for all three National Level galas and Youth gala. Every year her swimmers do extremely well at these galas, breaking records and receive lots of medals. Otters won Free State Champs now for 7 years in a row. Lynette was born and bred in Bloemfontein. She went to Oranje Meisies High School. Lynette swam for Otters and represented Free State on school level. Lynette swam for SA from 1981-1983. They swam in Taiwan and Israel. Lynette has 4 children who attend local schools and her husband has an established physiotherapy business in Bloemfontein.

Reynard Wessels

Reynard Wessels is Otters junior swimming coach. Reynard started his swimming career at the age of 5 years old. At the age of 9 Reynard broke his first SA Schools record in the 50 Butterfly event. At the age of 10 Reynard qualified for Level 3 Swimming Championship and competed in the 12 year age group.

In 2005 age 11 Reynard was awarded a gold medal at the Provincial Awards for young Sportsman from the Premier of the Free State. In 2007 Reynard qualified for SA Short Course open Championships for the first time. 2008 At the age of 14 Reynard qualified for Senior Nationals. 2009 Reynard broke 2 SA Age group records and also qualified for the World Cup Short Course Championship.

Reynard was chosen for the SA under 20 swimming team to compete in Swaziland at the zone 6 games and was also selected for the Long Term Development Olympic squad. 2010 Reynard represented the SA under 20 at the Confederation Games in Swaziland. In 2011 Reynard was selected to represent South Africa at the Mare Nostrum series in Spain, France and Monaco. Reynard also represented South Africa at the Junior World Championship held in South America - Peru. reynard was also nominated for the South African up and coming swimmer of the year. 2012 Reynard was selected for the SA Senior team for the International Invitational gala. He also competed in the under 20 African Championship in Lusaka, Zambia. Reynard went to school at Grey College Bloemfontein.
