About Bloem Otters

Otters Amateur Swimming Club has been in existence since 1927 in Bloemfontein.

Always run as an amateur club to promote swimming as a sport. Club coaches in more recent past were Santa van Jaarsveld, Syd Gibbons, Douggie Eagar and now Lynette Wessels.

The club has always been run by effective club committee members, who offer their services voluntarily. A club that has existed for many years proves sustainability, even through bad times.

The Otters Club has always had an "open door" approach, never making any distinction towards club members. All swimmers from whatever race, gender and creed have always been welcome.

The Otters Club host two annual galas each year. In October the Otters Prestige Gala and in January our Champs of the Future gala (only for junior swimmers up to 13 years of age)

We have a coach, who do the different programs needed to hopefully pruduce swimmers from previously disadvantaged environments, who will make it through the different stages of national competitions.

The club is run by an annually elected committee, comprised of chairperson, vice-chair, treasurer, secretary, person doing Team Manager entries,PR/Media co-ordinator, person involved with club clothing issues, person involved with transport and accommodation issues and fundraisers.

The club does not conduct its affairs in a vacuum. We are subject to rules and regulations set down by Swimming South Africa and implemented by Free State Aquatics.

An existing, thriving club as the foundation stone for hopefully, an even bigger, more successful one, encompassing swimmers for all walks of life.
